What happens if a check is missed (and why you can't backfill)
A check counts as missed at a specific point, and once it does, you can't go back and answer it as if it had been done on time.
Late in the day isn’t the same as missed
If a check is still unanswered later in the same day than its due time, it shows an amber “Due” badge. That’s a visual nudge, nothing more — the check hasn’t been marked missed, and you can still answer it normally at any point before the day ends.
A check only actually becomes missed once a full calendar day has passed with it still unanswered — that is, its due date is genuinely in the past, not just later than its due time today. At that point it flips permanently from pending to missed.
Why you can’t backfill it
Once something is marked missed, you can’t go back and complete it. You can acknowledge it instead, which requires a reason.
What you do instead
You don’t need to acknowledge a missed check to keep using the app — it can simply stay marked as missed. Acknowledging it requires giving a reason for why it was missed; adding what you’ll do to prevent it happening again is optional. Acknowledging doesn’t mark the check as done — it records that you’ve seen it and dealt with the fact of it being missed. This is a one-time action.
