Using inspection mode when the EHO visits

Updated 18/07/2026 · 3 min read

Inspection mode gives a read-only, browsable view of your records for an officer to look at directly on the device, instead of a downloaded file. It covers the same records as the PDF and CSV exports, presented differently.

1

Open inspection mode

From Manage → Reports, alongside the PDF and CSV export options.

2

Pick a date range

Choose a quick preset — last 28 days, 3 months, 12 months — or set a custom range to match what the officer wants to see.

3

Choose a view

Several read-only views are available: History (the day-by-day diary), Safe methods, Documents, Calibration records, and HACCP records if that optional module is switched on for the premises.

4

Hand the device over

Everything in inspection mode is read-only, so there's no risk of accidentally editing a record while the officer is browsing.

What inspection mode shows

Inspection mode presents the same records covered by the PDF and CSV exports, without downloading or generating a file. An officer browses live on your device, choosing their own date range and moving between views.

The History view is the day-by-day diary — the same records that make up the bulk of the PDF export, browsable directly rather than paged through as a document. Safe methods shows only your adopted methods; draft methods that haven’t been adopted yet aren’t shown. Documents gives access to whatever’s filed in your document store. Calibration shows probe calibration records. HACCP appears only if that optional module has been switched on for the premises, and shows the relevant HACCP records.

Why it’s read-only

There is no route from inspection mode to editing or adding records. The help button that appears elsewhere in the app is also not shown while inspection mode is active.

If the officer would prefer a document to take away or read afterwards rather than browse live, the PDF diary export covers the same ground as a downloadable file, and the CSV bundle is available if they want the underlying data instead.

Inspection mode is part of the wider reports & EHO exports feature set.

Tip: The help button is not shown while inspection mode is active.
