Moving from the paper SFBB pack to Rated5
If you've been running your kitchen off the paper Safer Food Better Business pack, the structure stays the same when you move to Rated5 — it follows the same sections, just recorded digitally.
Same structure, different format
The SFBB pack’s core sections — opening checks, closing checks, cleaning schedules, temperature monitoring, and your safe methods — all exist in Rated5 in the same shape: a short opening checklist, temperature checks through the day, a closing checklist, and cleaning done on its own cadence.
What the app does that the paper pack didn’t
- Daily checks appear on their own. The day’s opening, closing and cleaning items are generated for you each day — there’s no sheet to print or photocopy.
- Temperature bands are calculated, not read off a chart. Rated5 works out whether a temperature is within a safe range, based on the appliance and the relevant national rules, instead of checking it against a laminated chart.
- Corrective actions are guided, not a margin note. Instead of a note in a diary margin, Rated5 walks you through a structured, timestamped sequence of questions and records exactly what was done and when.
Safe methods, personalised
The SFBB pack’s safe-method pages — the “how we do it here” statements for things like cross-contamination, cleaning, and cooking — exist in Rated5 too, seeded as a starting set you personalise for your own premises. They begin as drafts; you go through them, answer a few questions about how you actually do things, and sign off with your name to adopt each one.
What stays the same
Rated5 calculates temperature bands and generates the day’s checks. Decisions such as whether to accept a delivery, or how to word a corrective action, are still made by whoever’s doing the work.
Getting your team on board
Records are entered on a phone or tablet instead of written by hand. Everyone signs in as themselves rather than sharing one pack, so every record shows who did it.
