The four-weekly review, step by step
The four-weekly review checks that your food safety management system still reflects how your premises actually operates. It's due every 28 days from the last time it was signed off, not on a fixed calendar date.
Watch for the amber warning
The review turns amber 7 days before it's due.
Start the review
Work through the items listed, confirming your procedures, checklists and safe methods still match what actually happens day to day.
Confirm or flag each item
For each item, say whether it's still accurate or needs updating. Confirming just moves on; saying it needs updating flags it for follow-up.
Sign off
Completing the review signs off everything you've gone through in one action. Once signed, it's permanent — like every other record in your diary, it can't be edited afterwards.
Follow up on anything flagged
If you said something needed updating rather than confirming it, a corrective action opens automatically for each item you flagged.
What happens if it’s overdue
If the review isn’t signed off within 7 days of its due date, it shows as red. It stays outstanding until you complete it.
The four-weekly review sits alongside your daily checks.
